Fannish 50 Challenge 2025: Post # 24: Annual "Bring Back The Porn" Day
The Challenge: On September 1st, post something porny to your journal or favorite archive. This can be fic, art, icons, meta, your favorite porny recs, a dirty limerick, et cetera. All fandoms and also original work are welcome. All kinks, all types of pairings -- anything goes, as long as there is some sort of smut factor -- explicit, raunchy, taboo, vanilla, subtle implication, Any And All The Smut.

drawesome challenge. The prompt was What makes you happy.
Breakfast is my favourite meal (the promise of a new day), and this has become my favourite breakfast over the past while - it definitely makes me happy.
A toasted bagel drizzled with garlic olive oil, smeared with Promite (a gentler variant of Vegemite made in Aussie), then generously covered with smoked garlic hummus (Turkish Kitchen brand, for any Kiwis here). I've only drawn half of the bagel, so assume I've eaten the other half and am humming happily. Dilmah's English Breakfast tea with milk in my favourite yellow Chinese mug (see icon), and Greek yoghurt flavoured with Barker's Apricot (like apricot jam but with no added sugar or sweetener) plus a little maple syrup. Yum.

So the other day I got a notification that Tony Craig (to whom I'm subscribed on FB - he doesn't post very much though) DMed me on Facebook. Strange, because I don't know him and have never met him that I recall (maybe at the 25th anniversary RCW 139 several years ago? honestly can't recall, that is mostly a blur).

So be on the lookout for scammers pretending to be celebrities DMing you on social media, people. You probably already knew this, but... 99.99999% of the time, it is not going to be that celebrity... sorry.

1) Got an email notification that Regina Keim posted a new due South Word Search on the Due South! Facebook page. Luckily the link was in the email notification - no need to go on Facebook.
B. I've been really pissed off lately by the crap that has been "recommended" in the sidebar/feed of what's "trending" on Youtube. Just vile crap that I DO NOT want to see, am NOT subscribed to, and have NO INTEREST IN. I really truly believe the algorithms are hijacked to show you crap you would never in a million years want to see, even if Google/Youtube track your Youtube usage (which Google/owner of Youtube does) and supposedly use your history to only show you what you like. That's a load of total bullshit, in my experience. It doesn't matter if I'm logged into my Gmail/Youtube account, or not - Youtube STILL tries to get me to watch crap that will upset me.
( rant about the dogdamn algorithms for feeds and recs, with some browser and extension solutions and notes and caveats )
I don't know why it's so fucking impossible to have a crap-free Internet experience. It didn't use to be. (OK, I'm old, and I remember a completely ad-free Internet... yes, I did use Netscape 1.0... what.) Oh, wait: it's because of corporate enshittification of the Internet, that's right! *facepalm*
But when I go on a site, I ONLY WANT TO SEE WHAT I CHOOSE AND WHAT I'M SUBSCRIBED TO ON THAT SITE- not what's "Trending," not what's "Recommended" (by WHO??), not what's in a "Feed" (feeding what? crap!!). Don't tell me what others are watching - don't care. Not interested. Don't tell me what's Trending - I really truly don't give a shit what everyone else is watching. The average person may be really into seeing what's trending but, as American Splendor pointed out, average isn't something to shoot for.
Yes: I know the best way to avoid all that crap is not to use Youtube at all - but there are some crafting vids I like to watch/search for, as well as other video topics I seek out from time to time (including ASMR vids and vids that claim the sound wavelength helps with concentration or bodily pain - I mean, I dunno if the latter is true, but it seems to help and I really don't give a shit if that's a placebo effect or not: I'll take it). Plus vimeo is pretty useless now unless you're a subscriber, which I'm not.
Anyhoo. Hope these tips help your Internet experience be as crap free as possible, at least in this day and age. Happy crap-free browsing!

I came across a story a few weeks ago pairing Caroline/Bob/Buck, it was so well done my brain got completely spun out. Did you know there’s less than two dozen Bob/Buck fics on A03? Plot bunny suddenly just went *poof.* 🐰 🪄
Anyways, I’m going to be looking for a beta soon if anyone is interested.

Goddamn scammers. This is a PSA - watch out for this bullshit
I was almost scammed yesterday. Got a phone call ostensibly from my bank and he (UK accent, slightly unusual but not impossible) launched right away into reassurance that he wasn't going to ask for my PIN or account details. Said he was from my bank's fraud dept and my credit card had been used for a transaction for over $1800.00 in Singapore, so as they knew I lived in Auckland, he was checking I wasn't on vacation there. I said no I wasn't.
He assured me they would block the payment, but said that unfortunately as someone had my card details, the bank would have to cancel my card and mail me a replacement. I moaned a bit about the hassle. Then he said he needed me to check my texts as there should be one related to the scam transaction. There was. Then he said could I read out the 6 digit authorisation number so he could cancel it. But the authorisation number had only 4 digits, so I got suspicious, told him I'd call my bank, and disconnected. Would I have fallen for it if he'd got the number of digits right? I hope not, but am unsure.
Sure enough it was a scam, and my bank's fraud dept hadn't contacted me. There was a small sum the scammer had tried to charge to my card, and my bank said if I'd given him the authorisation number he'd in fact have charged a huge amount to my card. The bad news is that the bank still have to cancel my card, and the REALLY ANNOYING news is that they're based in both Aussie and NZ and their new procedure is to mail my new card from fucking Australia, not locally. I know from past experience that mail from Aussie can take bloody weeks, so that's a huge bummer. (They say max. 2 weeks but I don't believe it). I have several payments automatically set up on my card and they're going to start bouncing.
Anyway, I'll just be over here gnashing my teeth, but be aware of this scam - they're very slick and believable. Don't ever give anyone purporting to be from your bank a texted (etc.) transaction authorisation number, no matter how small the amount is. In fact, don't do anything at all if "your bank" calls you. Hang up and call your bank to check.

Adventures in giffing
Been having a (fantastic) time of it learning how to gif, and all the color correcting, video tinkering that comes with it. I understand why the original source is so dark, but pulling up the colours and values is a task in itself. A creative task, and enjoyable, but a task nonetheless. Not to mention the optimizing for size. BUT. unfortunately it is a lot of fun.
Currently giffing Caught, though I did gif Buffalo Jump and Republic of Doyle a bit. But currently we are all on top of that bearded old man like ants at a picnic.
