Characterization!
Dear wonderful, fabulous, delightful Due South Seekrit Santa participants...hi! This week Mergatrude and I want to open an ongoing discussion of character in Due South. Writers especially may find this helpful, since a key part of fanfic is making sure your characters are recognizably IN character.
Rules:
- NO CHARACTER BASHING.
- NO AUTHOR/FAN BASHING.
- Critique of the show is okay, such as: "I really wish the writers had been more consistent with showing us who the women characters are." Or, "I love S2 Meg, but by S4, it's like the writers didn't know who she was anymore."
- Keep discussion general/varied enough so readers can't guess what you're making/who your recipient is. (Keep seekrit things seekrit!)
- Feel free to ask questions of the group. For example: "What do you think Maggie MacKenzie was like as a kid?" (Hint: if you ask several of these, no one will have any idea who your giftwork is about and it will give participants a chance to chat about several different characters. *g*)
Past years' characterization resources are linked at this post...but! Those resources are MANY years old and no one is following them anymore, so commenting there is unlikely to get you any response. If you want to talk about a character, bringing a discussion forward to THIS post is a much better bet. :)
The DSSS submission deadline is in 8 weeks. Please let us know at dsss.admin@gmail.com if you have any questions or need any help! If you need clarifications about a prompt, come to us and we'll happily talk to your recipient FOR YOU so you get to keep your Seekrit Identity.
Best of luck, everyone! YAY DSSS!!! \o/
