Disclaimer for any new guys to the fandom - and I know there's a few, I run this by myself in between 2 teaching jobs and researching for a doctorate so please bear with me! ^__^;;;

Here is this year's schedule! 

Signups Open	Sunday 7th October 2024
Signups Close	Friday October 27th, 2024 at 11:59pm (UTC)
Assignments sent out to participants	Monday October 28th 2024
Collection open for posting	November 1st, 2024
Assignments Due	Friday 20th December 2024 at 11:59pm (UTC)
Reveal Anonymous Works	Tuesday December 24th, 2024 11:59pm (UTC)
Reveal Authors	Jan 1st, 2024

Welcome back to another year of DSSS. This year everything will run like last year. (Except a little late and with a shorter sign up (what's new!?).

The AO3 tagset will run like a standard exchange with 3 requests to 1 match up carried out using AO3 algorithms. 

Requests will be visible from the start of sign ups. This allows for more transparency and longer time to start thinking about treats whether or not you decide to sign up to the main event.

There will be no beta check in. We recommend you get your work beta'd before submitting it to continue DSSS high standards. It is a gift after all. The mod (me) will be checking for any glaring mistakes when you submit and will get in touch if anything needs amending. 

That being said there will be a beta volunteer post at a later date so please ask if you are struggling to get a beta. 

We are scrapping the rule that if you default on your main match you can't treat. We understand why this was done previously but we decided that life happens sometimes, and inspiration comes and goes when it feels like it. Nobody wants to default. But if you do, and later on you get inspiration for something else, there's nothing wrong with throwing more cake into the mix. Who doesn't love more cake at Christmas? I will still ensure that everybody who signs up gets a gift regardless.

The collection will be open at the same time this year giving more time for contributions.

By the way, it wouldn't let me input "diefenbaker & none" as the r-ship. Unsure if it's just that specific option that's a problem, or if none of the "& none" r-ships will work. Maybe it won't allow new-to-AO3 r-ships be added in a sign-up?

ETA: we figured it out in discord - it's in there as Dief & none, not Diefenbaker & none. 😊

If you need any help, let me know... I am only a "consulting" mod, but the heavy lifting for the old dSSS import to AO3 has been done already; OTW does the rest. So I'll have time if you need assistance.

I'm not that great with the AO3 stuff, mainly from lack of experience (squidgie used to do all the tech stuff), but I can post notices here, etc. if you're swamped.

Like verushka70, I too am a "consulting" mod. If you want an additional mod for looking at submitted works and giving approvals for works to be added LMK and I'll help.

BTW, you might already be aware of this, but I want to mention that the dSSS was created in 2004, so this is it's 20th anniversary.

That's true! The inaugural dSSS was in 2004 (and those fics will start getting imported to AO3 next month by OTW, yay!), so this IS the 20th anniversary of dSSS! 💜🙂

Gah. Math. Counting forward from 2004 I get that last year was the 20th year, but when I posted that comment above I had counted back from 2024 and got the number 20. Math is not my strong point. /o\
